Award success for BRC trainee

Congratulations to Dr Sarah Hull, a BRC trainee and Clinical Research Associate at the Institute of Ophthalmology, on her award for ‘best group PPI application’ at the recent NIHR research training camp.

The NIHR research training camp is an annual training event attended by NIHR doctoral students from various BRUs, BRCs and CLAHRCs.

This year’s event was attended by 70 delegates and focused on the theme of career development and the skills needed to attract health research funding.

The training camp was designed around a fictitious call for grant proposals for the ‘making people healthier’ research programme. During the event, delegates had the opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary team, with the aid of an experienced academic mentor and prepare and present a fictional grant proposal to a panel of ‘funders’.

The winning team for the best PPI plan included delegates from psychology, biochemistry, paediatrics and renal.

Delegates also had the opportunity to network with doctoral students from diverse scientific and professional backgrounds and to hear talks from speakers including Dame Sally Davies, Chief Medical Officer.
