New costings process in place nationally to speed up commercial set up times

A new process is now in place in relation to the costing of commercial clinical trials – to help improve study set-up times and reduce the workload of study teams.

There will now be a standardised approach to costings for commercial contract research, with local price negotiations for commercial research ending.

No action is needed from investigators and research staff.

The removal of local contract and contract-value negotiation is intended to improve study set up times, and will mean all studies only need to be costed once.

Costings will be done according to reference tariffs agreed at national level.

The changes part of the National Contract Value Review (NCVR) – the standardised, national approach to costing commercial studies.

The changes were made in response to Lord O’Shaughnessy’s independent review of commercial clinical trials.
