BRC Cardiometabolic funding call

The BRC Cardiometabolic programme is inviting applications for funding of up to £200,000.

The clinical research awards scheme has been established to support proposals across key strategic areas of importance to the Cardiometabolic programme:

  • cardiovascular risk and prevention strategies
  • innovation in diagnostics/imaging
  • innovation in treatment
  • drug development
  • cardio-oncology
  • stroke
  • diabetes

The overall objective of the Cardiometabolic Programme is to improve health outcomes in patients with cardiometabolic disease though the following inter-related themes:

  • epidemiology and prevention of cardiometabolic disease
  • genetic and environmental factors in cardiometabolic disease
  • understanding the mechanisms underlying cardiometabolic disease and identifying novel therapeutic targets for treating it
  • detection and diagnosis of cardiometabolic disease
  • discover novel therapeutic strategies for treating cardiometabolic disease
  • analysis of health outcomes of patients with cardiometabolic disease
  • to develop novel devices to treat cardiovascular disease
  • recruitment and training

Only clinical research specific to the areas of experimental medicine, that is early phase human translational studies of new discovery, mechanisms and evaluation in therapeutics (drug, immunological and cell based), diagnostics and medical technology will be considered.

Applications will be evaluated against alignment with BRC aims – experimental medicine; leveraging of funds including industry, NIHR, or other major funder; and strength of research which must be distinct and innovative.

For more information see the BRC Cardiometabolic Clinical Research Call – Project Guidance.

Funding must be spent by 31 March 2017.

To submit a proposal complete the BRC Cardiometabolic Clinical Research Call - Proforma and send to Sara Giesz, Cardiometabolic Programme Operations Manager s.giesz@ucl.ac.uk.

Deadline for submission is 5pm, Friday 17 October 2014.
