Impact of BRC shown by academic papers

The impact of our BRC funding on biomedical research is increasingly evident in academic papers, according to latest figures.

The NIHR biomedical research centre at UCLH has seen a year-on-year increase of around 10% in the number of papers acknowledging BRC support.

Publication metrics represent a key performance indicator of the NIHR’s impact on biomedicine, with BRCs reporting on an annual basis since 2012/13, and, as of this year, on a quarterly basis. The total number of acknowledged papers from our particular BRC’s faculty members across our cancer, neuroscience, cardiometabolic and infection, immunity and inflammation programmes now stands at 2,184.

This year (2015-16) the BRC started calculating numbers of citations, i10 and h-indices across all programmes.

At the end of quarter 2 this year, the total number of citations was 35,486, and the number of publications with at least 10 citations by other papers stood as 841, with an H-index of 75, up from 30,125, 746 and 67, respectively at the end of quarter 1.

The i10-index indicates the number of academic publications an author has written that have at least ten citations from others and this index rose from 746 to 841.
