Professor Bryan Williams opens MedCity event

BRC Director Professor Bryan Williams opened a unique event this month which sought to give the MedTech industry opportunity to connect with BRCs in London, Oxford and Cambridge.

To an audience of over 170, Professor Williams gave an overview of the nine London BRCs and explained how they act as “levers for change” when the traditional pharma model for drug discovery often fails.

Professor Williams said that BRC investment into emergent platform technologies/omics; and big data linkage meant Britain should be able to lead the way in revolutionising healthcare.

Representatives from 54 MedTech companies were present at the event, which was hosted by MedCity, a collaboration between the Mayor of London and London’s Academic Health Science Centres – UCL Partners, Imperial College Academic Health Science Centre and King’s Health Partners, which aims to promote and grow the world-leading life sciences cluster of the south east.

After the talks, which included MedCity CEO Sarah Haywood and Dr Matthew Hallsworth from the NIHR Office for Clinical Research Infrastructure, networking opened up with stands exhibited by BRC researchers in three zones: Imaging and Diagnostics; Novel Therapeutics and Technologies; and Informatics, Data and Genomics. There was also a display of academic posters.

We would like to thank the following researchers from our BRC who had a stand at the event:
