Bursary available for researchers wishing to use UCLH data in research

Early career researchers wishing to use UCLH data in their research can now apply to a bursary scheme to have the cost of data extraction and delivery for their research waived.

The bursary is from the SAFEHR (Secure Anonymised Fair Electronic Health Records) programme at UCLH, which extracts and provides UCLH data to researchers applying to use it.

Usually the cost of data extraction and delivery is £10,000. But successful applicants to the bursary scheme will have this fee waived.

SAFEHR can provide access to datasets including imaging data and free text data from medical records. SAFEHR can combine datasets together. Enabling access to this ‘multimodal’ data is a key strength of SAFEHR.

The deadline for applications is 7 November 2025.

To be eligible, researchers must be in the early stage of their career, or be an active clinical practitioner or equivalent if they are a nurse, midwife, allied health professional, healthcare scientist, member of pharmacy staff or psychologist).

They must also not have received a major research grant as the lead investigator.
