The deadline is approaching for applications for multi-user equipment grants and biomedical resource and technology development grants, following strategic investments made in research infrastructure by the School of Life and Medical Sciences (SLMS).
Applicants are strongly encouraged to seek matching funds, with priority given to proposals with cross-faculty, cross-school and multidisciplinary applications.

Deadline: 5pm Friday 13 September 2013
Those intending to apply to the Wellcome Trust MUST apply through the SLMS Capital Equipment call first. The Wellcome asks for UCL to prioritise preliminary applications and proposals that do not come through this route will not be supported. Up to 50% of the capital will be provided as matched funding for prioritised Wellcome applications.
Proposals for SLMS Capital Equipment must be for equipment only, not staff, consumables, refurbishment or IT equipment (clusters, data storage or networking). Requests should be in excess of £50,000 (purchase value) and the equipment must be purchased by July 2014. The total amount of funding available is £1,000,000.
Applications will be assessed using the following criteria:
- strategic value/demonstrated usage by scientists across number of research groups/divisions/institutes/faculties
- fit to UCL, SLMS and Faculty research strategies
- evidence of a sustainability plan for the equipment/facility
- equipment for a single lab or to support recruitment where there is strong faculty support
