Fast Track Grants Scheme now open

Awards of up to £40,000 are available for researchers in experimental medicine related to the BRC to assemble pilot data on which to build larger grant applications to external funding bodies.

The deadline for applications is 5pm Monday 5 April 2021. In 2020, 80% of applications were supported.

Awards are made from the Fast Track Grants Scheme from the Clinical Research and Development Committee (CRDC), a collaboration between the BRC and the UCLH Charitable Trustees.

As the source of funding for the fast track scheme is not the NIHR, the scheme will consider pre-clinical proposals and later phase research proposals which align with the BRC’s broader goals of translation.

The main applicant must be a UCLH/UCL investigator who will do the work at a UCLH site.

Staff working at the following sites are not eligible to apply:

  • Royal Free and Whittington Campuses
  • GOS Institute of Child Health/Great Ormond Street Hospital
  • Institute of Ophthalmology/Moorfields Eye Hospital
  • Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital/Stanmore Campus

Although open to all grades of staff the fast track scheme is highly appropriate for new Principal Investigators requiring support to build their programme of research. Individuals can only hold/be named as co-investigator on a Fast Track grant once in every three years. Applications from early career researchers with new ideas are particularly welcomed.

If approved, projects may be started immediately. All Fast Track proposals must have the clear support of at least one BRC Programme Director.
