Funds available for innovations that improve staff experience

UCLH teams can apply for up to £10,000 for innovative ways of improving staff safety.

The UCLPartners’ Innovation Adoption Funding, announced last week to coincide with World Patient Safety Day, this year focuses on health worker safety.

Funding will be aimed at helping teams adopt, spread, test or refine a workforce innovation that improves staff safety and experience.

Teams do not need to invent new ideas – funds aim to enable teams to overcome barriers to implementing ideas that have already been put into practice successfully elsewhere.

Applications can be made for funding over six months to:

  • Adopt an innovation or improvement intervention
  • Spread an innovation or improvement intervention to one or more adopter sites
  • Test and refine an innovation or improvement intervention in partnership with one or more adopter sites

Application deadline is Thursday 15 October.

Last year’s funding, which focused on patient safety, enabled a team from Whittington Health NHS Trust to introduce training for  health care assistants (HCAs) to provide one-to-one care usually given by nurses for vulnerable or critically ill patients in hospital. This led to the establishment of a permanently enhanced care team.
