Leadership award for Academic Careers Office head

Head of the UCL Academic Careers Office (ACO) Colby Benari who leads a team which supports and develops early career researchers has won the Leadership Award at the UCL Professional Service Awards.

Colby has overseen an expansion of the ACO – which is funded by the BRC and is in effect its Education theme – which helps researchers win funding, learn professional skills through a portfolio of training initiatives and develop personal attributes which boost their CV.

She was judged by the awarding panel to have made an ‘outstanding’ contribution to UCL.

Colby said: “It was a real honor to be recognized by my colleagues at UCL for leadership. The award came as a delightful and humbling surprise, especially given the caliber of my fellow nominees. The Academic Careers Office team make it a pleasure to come into work every day and I am grateful for their dynamism, dedication and support.”

The ACO is supported by the Wellcome Trust, and works in collaboration with research teams across UCLH and UCL including the Joint Research Office and the UCL Translational Research Office as well as the BRC.

Its flagship training course to support clinical academics in developing skills in data science and machine learning – Clinician Coders – next runs on 3-4 March 2020.
