Medical device innovation deadline approaching

The deadline is fast approaching for UCL's Institute of Biomedical Engineering call for studentships to its doctoral training programme in medical device innovation.

Projects need to have clear translation potential and involve research towards the production of a medical device. Cross-faculty and department collaboration is strongly encouraged, with demonstrable clinical and patient need being an important factor.

Proposals will be accepted from all aspects of medical device innovation, however preference will be given to projects in areas for which alternative programmes are not available at UCL – namely, in:

  • biomaterials
  • bioengineering (including structural & functional implants)
  • sensors & diagnostics.

Six of the ten available studentships are fully funded by the UCL/UCLH, Moorfields and GOSH NIHR BRCs. Students funded through these will be expected to work on research projects aligned with a BRC research theme and will have a clinical supervisor linked with the BRC.

The call for projects, guidelines and application form are available here.

This call is open to supervisory teams from UCL academic staff and UCLH, Moorfields and GOSH BRCs only.

Completed application forms must be submitted to j.griffiths@ucl.ac.uk by 7 March 2014.
