The HRA and the devolved administrations have announced new criteria for the approval of standalone student research from 1 September 2021.
The new criteria mean that some Masters level students will be able to apply for ethics review and HRA/HCRW Approval or devolved administration equivalent.

In March 2020 the HRA paused student research approvals to create capacity for urgent Covid-19 research. It has now reviewed its approach to study approval for student research – studies which are primarily for the purpose of obtaining an educational qualification.
