NIHR Senior Investigator competition launched

The NIHR seventh annual Senior Investigator competition has opened. Leading researchers funded by the NIHR or the DoH Policy Research Programme can apply and selection is by an international peer-review panel.

Selection criteria include the excellence of investigators' research in comparison to other research in their field, the relevance of their research to patients and the public, the impact of their research on healthcare and public health and the impact of their personal leadership on patient and people-based research.

Feedback to our BRC suggests that the publications metrics are the most onerous part of the application process; the BRC is scheduling some help to complete this section of the application. To organise completion of this part of the form, or for any other questions, contact Dr Nandi Simpson (i.simpson@ucl.ac.uk).

Applicants should discuss with their programme director and will need to register here on the NIHR CCF Research Management System.

The deadline for applications is 30 July 2013. To view the full invitation to apply click here. To read guidance for applicants click here.

New UCL appointments include Professor William M Rosenberg (Gastroenterology & Hepatology) and Professor Susan Michie (Psychology).

Re-appointments are Professor Martin Rossor and Professor Alan Thompson (Clinical Neurology), Professor Neil Marlow (Paediatrics), Professor Steve Halligan (Radiology/Nuclear Medicine/Medical Imaging), Professor Peter Brocklehurst (Obstetrics & Gynaecology) .

Senior Investigators are fundamental to the formation of the NIHR Faculty and represent the country’s most outstanding leaders of clinical and applied health and social care research. They receive an award of £15,000 a year as a personal discretionary fund, and attract additional NIHR Research Capability Funding. This is then recycled straight back into flexible research expenditure across our UCLH/UCL partnership.

Full details of all new Senior Investigators are available in the Senior Investigators Directory.
