UCL-hosted neurodegenerative diseases course proves a hit

An international group of over 50 PhD students from UCL and the University of Gothenburg have attended a UCL-hosted course on ‘Biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases.’

Lectures and group assignments covered biomarkers of neurodegenerative diseases – such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and Huntington’s disease – in blood and cerebrospinal fluid, as well as PET and MRI imaging of neurodegeneration and the use of biomarkers in clinical trials.

World-leading researchers led talks and discussions, including: Professor William Jagust (University of California, Berkeley); Drs Kerstin Heurling, Erik Portelius, Kina Höglund, Johan Gobom, Ulf Andreasson, Jorg Hanrieder and Nicholas Ashton and Prof Henrik Zetterberg (University of Gothenburg); Dr Joana Pereira and Andrea Varrone (Karolinska Institute in Stockholm); and Professors Nick Fox, John Hardy, Jonathan Schott and Drs Tammaryn Lashley (UCL).

The course is a collaboration between UCL and the University of Gothenburg, and will run on an annual basis at the two universities in alternate years. It was organised by Ross Paterson (NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer, UCL Institute of Neurology) and Michael Schöll (Wallenberg Centre for Molecular and Translational Medicine and the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology at The University of Gothenburg), and supported by the BRC and Olink Proteomics.
