Award for home oxygen service

BRC-supported Professor Wisia Wedzicha has been part of an award-winning team who redesigned the Department of Health’s Home Oxygen Service, saving the NHS £35m a year and improving the experience of a 90,000-strong patient group including adults and children.

This month the Department of Health won the financial initiative category in the Guardian Public Services Awards 2012 for the newly designed provision of home oxygen service. This new design aims to improve quality for patients, including regular reviews by clinicians and more transparency for suppliers and commissioners.

Procurement specialists working for the DH respiratory team prepared a national framework contract, which spelt out price boundaries.
