Public invited to event showcasing rheumatology research at UCLH

Patients and the public are invited to an event on Saturday 24 September 2022 to learn about UCLH research in rheumatological conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and gout.

The event is being organised by a UCLH rheumatology research group made up of patient partners and researchers.

The open event aims to engage people in research into rheumatic conditions and to encourage more people to get involved in research – including those from under-represented groups.

Sign up for the event via Eventbrite.

Rheumatoid conditions include a variety of conditions that can affect the muscles and joints. These include arthritis, lupus, chronic pain syndrome, joint hypermobility, and vasculitis.

The UCLH rheumatology research patient and public involvement (PPI) group meets regularly to discuss research priorities and plans for research projects. So far the group has met online and this will be the first in-person event.

Event attendees will be welcome to join the PPI group and attend further meetings – but there is no obligation to join the PPI group and all are welcome at the event.

The open event will include presentations on various research studies in different conditions, and what it’s like to take part in a research study.

Robert Wilson, Senior Rheumatology Research Nurse at UCLH, said: “We want to actively engage as many people as possible in our research, and we want to expand our patient and public involvement group to ensure it reflects the full diversity of people who take part in research and who we care for at UCLH.”

Where and when

The event will take place on Saturday 24 September 2022 at Friend’s House, 173 Euston Road (opposite Euston Station) from 11am-3pm.

Attendees are encouraged to register for the event in advance. This will help with catering. The team will accommodate anyone who turns up on the day as long as there is enough room capacity.
