UCL has been placed 6th globally for medicine, 4th globally for pharmacy and pharmacology and 1st for education in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023 – the world’s most consulted university ranking.
It means UCL is ranked even higher for medicine than in the 2022 rankings, where it was placed 7th. And UCL is number 1 in education for the tenth year in a row.
The rankings are based on metrics including graduate employability and research performance.
A large proportion of the research output of UCL is clinical research, based on a close partnership between UCLH and UCL. Central to this partnership is the BRC at UCLH and UCL.
Professor Bryan Williams, Chair of Medicine at UCL, Director of Research at UCLH and Director of the National Institute for Health and Care Research BRC at UCLH and UCL, said: “It is great to see UCL once again performing so well across subject areas, and to see a further climb up the rankings to 6th in medicine.
“UCL is the discovery engine that drives a lot of the medical innovation that we translate into patient care through our BRC at UCLH. It good to see recognition that our UCL-UCLH partnership is founded on such outstanding and world leading medical science. We knew that already from the fantastic work of colleagues across UCL, but it is good to see it independently validated. Number 6 in the world for medicine is a remarkable achievement by any measure.”
A total of 1,597 universities in 161 locations across the world were ranked across 54 academic disciplines.
The QS World University Rankings, which rank universities overall rather than at subject level, will be published later this year. The last edition of these rankings placed UCL at joint eighth in the world.
