UCL researchers, including our BRC researchers, are increasingly recognised as some of the most influential globally.
72 UCL researchers have been named in the internationally recognised annual Clarivate listings of the most influential researchers around the world for 2024. This is up from 60 in 2023 and 49 in 2022.
Many researchers on the list are supported by the NIHR BRC at UCLH.
The list features researchers judged to have ‘exceptional research influence.’ To be featured on the list, a researcher must have published multiple highly-cited scientific papers which rank in the top 1% of papers based on citations in the Web of Science – a global database of citations.
They are then assessed by an expert panel for evidence of community-wide recognition from an international and wide-ranging network of citing authors.
Researchers on the list are considered by Clarivate to be ‘1 in 1,000’.
Among those recognised in 2024 are:
- Professor Olga Ciccarelli – Director of the BRC Translational Neuroscience Theme
- Professor Aroon Hingorani – Director of the BRC Cardiovascular Theme
- Professor Charles Swanton – UCL Chair in Personalised Medicine and UCLH Medical Oncologist
- Professor Bryan Williams – UCL Chair of Medicine, UCLH Consultant Physician and former UCLH Director of Research and Director of the UCLH BRC from 2012 to 2023
