UCLH and UCL experts listed among the most influential researchers in the world

60 researchers affiliated with UCL have been named in the internationally recognised annual Clarivate listings of the 'world's most influential researchers' for 2023. This is up from 49 in 2022.

Many on the list are affiliated to the UCLH BRC, whose scientific research has contributed to improvements in patient care.

The list features the world’s top 1% of researchers on the basis of exceptional research influence.

This research influence is measured by the production of multiple highly-cited research papers that rank in the top 1% by citations in the Web of Science – a global database of citations which is independent of research publishers.

Among those recognised in the 2023 list are Prof Bryan Williams, UCLH Director of Research, Director of the NIHR UCLH Biomedical Research Centre and Chair of Medicine at UCL; Prof Charles Swanton, UCLH Consultant, Medical Oncologist and Chair of Personalised Medicine at UCL; and Prof Sir Ali Zumla, UCLH Consultant Infectious Diseases Physician and UCL Professor of Infectious Diseases and International Health.

Prof Williams said: “It is personally rewarding to be recognised in this list once again but also great to see the large number of colleagues at UCLH and UCL recognised for their research in this way. Strong representation on this list from UCLH and UCL reflects the expertise we are lucky to have at our hospital and university.”
