Patient & Public Involvement

The theme is actively involved in PPI. Below are some examples of our recent activities:

  • Professors Needleman and D’Aiuto were awarded funding from the UCL Centre for Co-Production in Health Research to lead on a co-production pilot project. They aim to co-produce high quality research through engagement with members of the public, communities and health care providers. The pilot builds on recently published research (D'Aiuto et al. 2018) demonstrating beneficial effects of reducing periodontitis in individuals with type 2 diabetes.

During the COVID pandemic we have continued to run our PPI activities:

  • PPI Forum of PITSTOP trial: first meeting delivered remotely in January 2021; second meeting to take place in in July 2021.
  • PPIE Focus group of TRINCOS study: was delivered remotely
  • Trial Management Group (including PPPIE representative) meetings of SAVER, PIT-STOP, SALRISE was delivered remotely.

Our Board member and theme funded researcher, Trigeminal Neuralgia expert Professor Joanna Zakrzewska, recently published a virtual book. Encountering Pain: Hearing, Seeing, Speaking (published by UCL Press) focusses on the voices and experience of those living with pain. This book can be downloaded for free from the UCL website here.
