PPI (patient and public involvement) Hub

Welcome to our PPI (patient and public involvement) hub. This is an area for our Patient Network, where you can find opportunities to get involved in research and register you interest in a project. It is also an area where you can access tips and information on inputting into research, and swap ideas.
This hub is hosted by the BRC and provides a channel for researchers, health and other professionals to involve and engage with patients, carers and the public.

Opportunities to input into research projects

In the hub, you can have your say quickly and easily on different projects via features such as surveys and polls, online discussion forums and ideas boards. For other projects, if you are interested in inputting into them, researchers will ask for your contact details so they can set up a meeting or talk with you online directly .

Reading a study book

"There's two really valuable aspects of our PPI group for me. Firstly, it lets us actually make a useful contribution to important areas of health – the great and very welcome feedbacks we get on our work sort of 'prove' that. But secondly, the involvement we have with clinicians and researchers seems to enlighten/endorse/encourage their views of the practicality and value of working with PPI – sometimes to their surprise. I'd also say that I get a lot more out of my involvement than I put in!"

"I was put in touch with Patience who subsequently sent me a clear and comprehensive summary of the how the UCH PPI engagement works and what kind of opportunities might be available. It was helpful to have that initial contact person to engage with and I was given clear information about what to expect. From there I was invited to a series of interesting focus groups ...I have found these all to be well run, stimulating, interesting and informative. As well as Patience, I have found that the staff members I have worked with, including Ros and Nathan and others, have been very happy to answer questions and give background information.
I have had a definite sense that our views and comments were valued and taken note of. This has helped to increase my confidence, and I look forward with interest to attending further UCH PPI workshops and groups... I would certainly recommend these PPI activities to others."
