NIHR 2013 Senior Investigators announced

Newly awarded and renewed NIHR senior investigators for this year have been announced.

Fifty-six Senior Investigators have been appointed in total - 19 new appointees and 37 current or previous holders of the award.

New UCL appointments include Professor William M Rosenberg (Gastroenterology & Hepatology) and Professor Susan Michie (Psychology).

Re-appointments are Professor Martin Rossor and Professor Alan Thompson (Clinical Neurology), Professor Neil Marlow (Paediatrics), Professor Steve Halligan (Radiology/Nuclear Medicine/Medical Imaging), Professor Peter Brocklehurst (Obstetrics & Gynaecology) .

Senior Investigators are fundamental to the formation of the NIHR Faculty and represent the country’s most outstanding leaders of clinical and applied health and social care research. They receive an award of £15,000 a year as a personal discretionary fund, and attract additional NIHR Research Capability Funding. This is then recycled straight back into flexible research expenditure across our UCLH/UCL partnership.

Our BRC is allocating resources to support future applicants for Senior Investigator awards by providing help with the process of completing applications – the next round of applications is expected to be launched in May. Dr Nandi Simpson (i.simpson@ucl.ac.uk) can provide advice if you would like more details.

Full details of all new Senior Investigators are available in the Senior Investigators Directory.
