£0.5m grant for cardiovascular gene annotation

A UCL research team has been awarded over £500,000 funding from the British Heart Foundation to investigate gene sequencing associated with cardiovascular diseases and processes.

Dr Ruth Lovering and her team at the UCL Institute of Cardiovascular Science will summarise the known functions of each gene, from published scientific papers. This process is known as ‘annotation’ and information gathered will be circulated amongst the major scientific databases.

The team will concentrate their annotation effort on genes involved in heart development and cardiovascular processes, and these annotations will support interpretation of complex biological pathways.

This funding will support two post-doctoral research assistants for five years in the Institute of Cardiovascular Science. To view description of Research Assistant click here, for Senior Research Assistant click here. Closing date 11 April 2013.

Applicants will be expected to have a strong biological research background, preferably in any of a range of cardiovascular relevant areas, such as developmental biology, cell and/or molecular biology, immunology.
