Sir Robert Naylor: UCLH/UCL partnership has "excellent future"

Taking a prime spot at the BRC’s annual event this week UCLH Chief Executive Sir Robert Naylor said the UCLH/UCL partnership had an “excellent future to look forward to” following a successful year and emphasised the importance of collaborations so UCLH and UCL would remain at the forefront of research.

Sir Robert said he wanted to celebrate the BRC’s success while looking forward to the challenges of the future. This includes addressing Professor Dame Sally Davies’ ‘grand challenge’, where research projects can be linked with advanced information technology across the NHS.

Speaking about one of the long-term strategies of the hospital, Sir Robert expressed UCLH’s objective to “become the best cancer specialists in Europe” and said it was the responsibility of those taking things forward to become “world class” in this area. Sir Robert also alluded to neurosciences as another key strength within UCLH/UCL.

Sir Robert explained that to appoint the best people from around the world UCLH/UCL has to maintain its reputation as an outstanding partnership.

Sir Robert reassured researchers that although part of the CRF was reconfigured earlier this month to create room for the expansion of the UCLH Emergency Department, it would be re-provided to retain its capacity in due course.
