UCL doubles gender equality commitment awards

UCL has doubled its number of awards under the Athena SWAN scheme to improve the recruitment, promotion and retention of women in sciences.

In total, 13 UCL departments now hold a silver award, and 9 departments have secured a bronze award. This means after securing awards for 54% of academic science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine sciences departments, UCL can now apply for an institutional silver award.

The UCL Research Department of Epidemiology & Public Health, the UCL Division of Infection & Immunity, the UCL Institute of Child Health, and the UCL Medical School all received a silver award. In addition the Department of Chemical Engineering successfully renewed their silver award. The Eastman Dental Institute, the UCL Department of Chemistry, the UCL Ear Institute, the UCL Division of Surgery and Interventional Science and UCL Department of Mathematics received a bronze award.

Athena SWAN awards recognise success in developing employment practices to further and support the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine departments in academia.

This year’s Athena SWAN awards will be presented at an awards ceremony to be held at Durham University on Thursday 10 July.
