2 funding calls now open for AI research projects

Researchers can now apply for funding from two sources for studies looking at use of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare – a key part of UCLH’s Research Hospital initiative.

See our funding opportunities page for details of both funding calls.

The UCL AI in Healthcare CDT is accepting funding applications for projects which apply AI to solve the most pressing healthcare challenges.

The CDT will fund up to 8 studentships in 2019-2020, and the deadline for applications is Wednesday 31 July 2019.

At the same time, UCL and the three NIHR Biomedical Research Centres (BRCs) at Great Ormond Street Hospital, Moorfields and UCLH are offering funding to pump-prime collaborative AI projects led by UCL researchers and clinicians linked with the BRCs.

The funding call – made possible a Wellcome Trust Institutional Strategic Support Fund (ISSF) award to UCL – will be making awards in the range of £25-75,000, for projects of 6-12 months in duration with an expected start date of 1 January 2020. The deadline for applications is 16 September 2019.

The call is aimed at complex problems in healthcare that might now be tackled through the application of artificial intelligence, and whose solution is likely to be of substantial impact to the quality of patient care. The scope of the call is broad, covering clinical and operational problems.
