Research Collaboration
Statistical collaboration may require funding and should begin at the study conception stage. Early contact with the Biostatistics Group is strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time before grant deadlines (ideally at least 1 month). The statisticians typically provide the following scientific and intellectual input throughout the research pathway:
Design
- Assist in formulating the research question
- Clarify endpoints
- Choose the most appropriate design
- Formulate strategies for handling bias and missing data
- Determine the sample size
Implementation
- Input to study meetings
- Research or develop new statistical methods as required
- Draw up a full statistical analysis plan
- Perform the final analysis
Dissemination
- Help with the interpretation of results
- Contribute to writing up
Statistical Advice
The Biostatistics Group offers free statistical advice sessions to biomedical researchers at the UCLH and Royal Free NHS Trusts and the UCL Medical School. Please note that students are not eligible for this support.
Training
The Biostatistics Group trains medical statisticians and offers an annual short course on medical statistics for health researchers: Practical Statistics for Medical Research
