New HIC funding opportunities and the i4i accelerator

Latest funding news includes call from the Health Innovation Challenge Fund (HIC Fund) for applications and new dates for the i4i Life Science Accelerator programme.

The Health Innovation Challenge Fund (HIC Fund)

The HIC Fund is inviting applications for funding in five key areas, with each funding round making available £10m.

The HIC is a joint funding partnership between the Wellcome Trust and Department of Health. It is positioned as a translational funding scheme aimed at facilitating high-quality translational health research to produce technological developments that can deliver economic and patient health benefits within three to five years.

This call will remain open until 2 Sept 2013 for applications in each of these categories:

  • clinical applications of genetics
  • early detection and diagnosis of chronic illness or long term conditions
  • minimising the impact of trauma and serious injury
  • informing clinical management through software-based analysis of complex datasets
  • repurposing of medicines and medical devices.

i4i Life Sciences Accelerator

The i4i Life Sciences Accelerator programme has been developed to help small and/or early-stage companies and researchers from academic and clinical backgrounds to improve their chances of success when applying for funds or investment, by providing specialist advice on how to construct well-crafted applications and business plans.

The next available dates for the i4i Life Sciences Accelerator programme are:

Evening of Tuesday 23 to Thursday 25 April and Monday 20 to Tuesday 21 May 2013 
Evening of Wednesday 9 to Friday 11 October and Monday 11 to Tuesday 12 November 2013
