Plan to improve health of people with obesity launched

A three year plan to improve the health and lives of people living with obesity has been launched by the Obesity Empowerment Network (OEN UK), which was co-founded by the BRC’s Obesity theme lead Professor Rachel Batterham.

OEN UK is a growing network of obesity professionals and public champions across the UK to improve access to healthcare and treatment for individuals with obesity, to increase awareness that obesity is a chronic serious medical condition, to advocate for nationwide obesity prevention and treatment strategies and fight to eliminate weight-bias and discrimination.

Key themes of OEN UK’s plan for 2020-2023 are to raise the profile of the network, improve the network’s communications and undertake work on inclusion and transparency.

Activities will include regular OEN UK events; recruiting, training and supporting public champions; and identifying potential funding for specific activities such as running study days for healthcare professionals.
