The Nursing Team at the NIHR UCLH Clinical Research Facility (CRF) have won the Contribution to World Class Research Award at the 2020 UCLH Celebrating Excellence Awards.
The award is given to an individual or team that has demonstrated outstanding achievements, including contributions to the development of novel and innovative treatments, interventions or methodologies.
In 2020 the CRF team has been critical to the delivery of urgent public health studies for Covid-19 and led our efforts on the Oxford and Imperial Covid-19 vaccine trials. The Oxford vaccine has now been found to be highly effective.
At the same time, during the pandemic the team continued to maintain a large and complex portfolio of early phase trials in areas including cancer and neurological diseases.
The CRF is known for carrying out first in human trials and over the summer it was announced a drug trialled for the first time ever at the CRF for multiple myeloma had been approved for use in the United States, with the research team hoping approvals will follow swiftly in Europe.
And earlier this year the NIHR congratulated the CRF on the high levels of praise it received from research participants as part of the NIHR’s annual survey of people who have taken part in clinical studies. More than 9 in 10 people said they had a positive experience of research at the CRF and would consider taking part in future research and 100% of patients said they were treated with dignity and respect.
