UCLH marks International Clinical Trials Day

Research teams across UCLH have been engaging staff and patients in research this week in celebration of International Clinical Trials Day (ICTD), which will take place on 20 May.

Our celebrations and engagement activities coincide with a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) campaign encouraging everyone to ‘Be Part of Research.’

Patients and members of the public are encouraged to get involved in research – either by considering taking part in a trial, or by working with researchers to help shape research. And research teams have spoken to staff at UCLH to let them know about all the support available to them from UCLH and UCL to conduct research.

The celebrations and engagement activities went ahead thanks to colleagues from:

  • The Cancer Clinical Trials Unit
  • Critical Care
  • Women’s Health
  • our Biomedical Research Centre
  • our Clinical Research Facility
  • the UCLH and UCL Joint Research Office
  • the UCLH Clinical and Research Informatics Unit

UCLH typically has hundreds of research studies recruiting at any one time, with some 2,000 of our patients taking part in clinical trials. Our research means our patients have access to some of the most cutting-edge treatments.

UCLH aims to maximise opportunities for all patients to take part in research – and to encourage and enable all clinicians to do research as part of their work.

One key focus of engagement activity in the week leading up to ICTD is promoting Find a Study – the UCLH portal which enables patients (and their clinicians) to quickly and easily see which research studies they may be eligible to take part in.

And staff have been told about resources and support for carrying out research, including state of the art infrastructure and equipment, comprehensive research set up and management support, training and development, access to research participants and patient data for research, funding application support, and much more. Read more about resources and support for staff.

Future activities at UCLH are planned for later in the year, to encourage everyone to be part of research.
